Type Approval
All telecommunications and radio equipment must be type-approved before sale or use in South Sudan. The NCA ensures that equipment meets national and international standards for safety, quality, and electromagnetic compatibility.
About Type Approval
Overview
The National Communication Authority (NCA) is mandated under Section 28 of the National Communication Act, 2012, to regulate the importation, sale, and use of telecommunications and radio communication equipment in South Sudan. Type approval is the process by which the NCA certifies that equipment meets required technical standards.
The type approval regime ensures that all communications equipment sold or used in South Sudan is safe, does not cause harmful interference, and meets quality standards. This protects consumers, ensures spectrum efficiency, and supports the development of reliable telecommunications infrastructure.
Equipment requiring type approval includes mobile phones, radio transmitters, telecommunications terminal equipment, wireless devices, broadcasting equipment, and any device capable of emitting radio frequencies.
